Meet Our Animals:
Hazel
Introducing Hazel, the charismatic Hackney Pony who is around 14 years old (in her mid-teens) with a story as unique as her personality!
Hazel's journey through life has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. She started her adventure being passed from home to home until she found herself in yet another sale barn. It was there that the compassionate people who took her in also sold Mooshu, our cherished Hereford steer, both hailing from West Virginia.
When Hazel first arrived at our farm, she was thin, a testament to her tumultuous past. But with dedicated care and a meticulous re-feeding program, we managed to transform her into a picture of health, looking and feeling her absolute best in no time. However, Hazel carries a unique trait from her past – she developed a habit known as cribbing at a young age, which has resulted in the loss of her top teeth. Remarkably, she still continues to crib to this day, much like a lifelong smoker finds it hard to quit. Despite this quirk, she maintains excellent health without any significant issues.
Hazel is a bit of a lone ranger in our bustling animal community. Surrounded by a multitude of horses, ponies, minis, and other delightful creatures, Hazel prefers to keep to herself and isn't the biggest fan of sharing her space with others, particularly if they invade her precious bubble. However, Hazel's distinct charm lies in her versatility and unique role on our farm. She's one of the main stars at our birthday parties and events, enchanting guests with her presence. Not only that, she's an adventurer at heart, taking to the trails with enthusiasm and occasionally pulling a small carriage, expertly driven by our talented daughter, Chloey. In the wintertime, she lends her strength to pull sleds and a charming small sleigh, adding a touch of magic to the season. Hazel's story is a testament to resilience and adaptability, showcasing how even the most unique personalities can find their place and purpose. Her distinctiveness and charm have made her a beloved member of our farm family, and we're excited to introduce you to her on your next visit. Discover the wonder of Hazel – a true testament to the beauty of individuality!
